Oftentimes, we tend to ask this question to ourselves: “Which is more important, being passionate or being committed?” While this is a debate worth discussing for, I truly believe that both are important especially if you want your heart and soul to manifest in the work that you are doing.
And this is what the legacy of Lang Dulay proved for everyone to see.
In her lifetime, Lang Dulay has been expressing her passion and commitment in sharing the culture of T’nalak weaving for the next generations to learn and enjoy. Evidently, it was not a walk in the park to teach such technique due to its tedious process. However, the love and support that the T’boli tribe honored her made her teachings accessible to everyone, especially within their own group.
Because of this, she established a workshop in the Manlilikha ng Bayan Center in her hometown, South Cotabato. Through this, five of her grandchildren had already learned how to do the T’nalak weaving, and the numbers continue to rise.
As someone whose passion and commitment are being challenged every day, the legacy of Lang Dulay resonates to me in a much deeper sense. I may not personally know Lang Dulay, but I do believe that she also had her fair share of challenges and hindrances that she needed to embark before being known as the master T’nalak weaver, a dream weaver, and a legacy maker.
Truly, her works speak for itself: the stories she wove through the T’nalak, and her teachings on the T’nalak weaving for her tribe to preserve is a legacy worth celebrating as generations pass.
Let Lang Dulay’s legacy be a reminder to you to never stop pursuing what you love to do. Continue expressing your passion and commitment to what you are doing and always find time to recharge, for your legacy lies within you.
